Congenital hip dysplasia

Congenital hip conditions (developmental dysplasia / dislocation) can lead to severe hip joint deformity with partial or complete dislocation of the joint.

The image illustrates the deformity in a three-dimensional CT reconstruction. The spotlight is on the deformed joint surfaces. This condition can often be treated very successfully by joint replacement surgery. Even in relatively complex cases presenting with previous surgery in childhood hip replacement surgery can be offered to our patients. We attempt to use soft tissue- and bone-sparing techniques. In particular young patients who have been affected by congenital (Dysplasia) or acquired (Perthes) hip conditions in childhood can benefit greatly from reconstruction of their hip biomechanics by the appropriate implant.
