Operation

Modular implants replace the arthritic parts of pelvis and femur. For our patients we normally use implants which allow the bone to grow into their surfaces (un-cemented implantation).

Therefore direct bone contact to the implant should be achieved during the operation. About six weeks after the surgery x-rays show new bone growing into the implants confirming that the prosthesis is becomming an accepted part of the thigh bone and the pelvis. Muscles, tendons, fascia and ligaments need about 3 months following the operation to achieve sufficient strength and stabiliy.
